Thoughts from Hosea...

Wednesday, May 27, 2009

Sunday, I started a three week series on the book of Hosea. If you attend RSC, I asked you to read chapters 1-3 this week. You were to read it on Monday trying to read it from Hosea's perspective. Tuesday you were to read chatpers 1-3 from Gomer's perspective and today you were to read chapters 1-3 from the children's perspective. Well, what have you learned? Where are you meditating in this passage?

I have camped out at Hosea 2:14, "Therefore, I will allure her..." God is speaking through His prophet. God is going to "allure" Israel back into the covenant relationship with Himself. There is judgment for Israel turning away from God, but God will allure, or romance, Israel back into a relationship with Himself. What an incredible love God has for His people. To think that when we walk away from Him, He would court us, romance us, allure us back to Him. I look at my own life and remember hitting rock bottom because of my own sinful choices. It was in that moment that Christ looked so attractive. My prayer was simple: I have tried life my way; now I am read to try it your way! Why did I pray this prayer? Because God was alluring me to Himself. Those are some incredible thoughts from Hosea!

In meditating on Hosea 1-3 from Hosea's perspective, I have learned that God does not shy away from the hard things. He knew exactly how difficult life would be for Hosea and the children. Knowing this, He still called Hosea to marry Gomer. Jesus knew how difficult the cross would be. Knowing this, God still sent His Son and His Son still died on the cross. God knows that the people He has redeemed for Himself will (at times) turn their backs on him. Knowing this, God still saved us and daily "allures" us into a relationship with Him. If God does not shy away from hard things--then I shouldn't either!
